Exercising With Your Dog

Exercising With Your Dog

Lack of activity is a continuing health problem for many people in our society. Without the constant movement that working for our food and shelter provides, people have become sedentary and unhealthy. Not exercising regularly also prevents us from relieving stress and fighting disease. Canines have the same problems if they become too sedentary for too long. Dogs and wolves in the wild are constantly on the move searching for food. Domestic dogs don’t have to work for food as it “magically” appears in their bowl. The lack of physical activity for both humans and their canine friends is a problem that needs to be addressed. Exercising with your dog might be the perfect solution.

Exercise leads to a longer life in dogs and their masters. By increasing strength, endurance and flexibility humans and dogs can better deal with the stress of our current times. It also provides increased muscle mass and weight control. Since many dogs are confined to indoors without a yard to run in, it is important to give them a chance to run, especially if your dog is a breed meant for running or working. Many pet owners complain about chewing, barking or digging in their dog. However, most dogs are not capable of these behaviors as a way to torment their owners. Most just need exercise! The dogs have pent up energy and need an outlet in which to get it out of their system. Physical exercise leads to a better mental outlook in both dogs and their owners.

Exercising with your dog is also a great way to kill two birds with one stone. A whole bunch of chores get taken care of while the dog and you are having fun and exercising. While you are taking the dog out to potty, you can be exercising, the dog can be exercising and obedience training can be accomplished all at the same time. The dog will also be enjoying quality time with you. As dogs are social creatures, you time and attention is as much a need as food and water.

A half an hour three days per week is a perfect amount of time for a good work out. If every day could be managed, that is best for both you and your canine companion. If you make this a regular habit your dog will pick up on your cues and start to gently remind you that it’s time to go for a run or walk. Also, having a large dog with you will help you feel safer running or walking in your neighborhood.

Make sure to consider your dogs breed when developing an exercise routine. Small dogs such as Pekinese or Dachshund have a limited capacity due to long spines, short legs and bad hips. They would love a short walk, but longer hikes will require you to carry them. Other small breeds have lots of energy, but consider their limitations too. Breeds built for hunting or sledding such as retrievers and spaniels have incredible stamina. Some dogs with flatter faces might not be able to breathe well in hotter weather while exercising so it would be best to exercise early or late in the day. Talk to your veterinarian about any issues with your dog and his/her particular breed before you begin an exercise routine.

Tips For Getting a Good Night of Rest

Good Night of Rest

Sleep professionals often say that a healthy person between the ages of 18 and 55 should get anywhere from eight to nine hours of sleep per night to ensure a healthy lifestyle. However, research shows that the average person in this age range gets less than six hours of sleep per night! Not getting enough sleep can contribute to a host of health problems including higher stress levels, high blood pressure, depression, and lowered immunity. Not to mention, a person just does not feel as good when he or she is not getting a proper night of sleep.

If you are a person that falls into the category of not getting enough sleep, there are things you can do to improve not only your length of sleep, but also your quality of sleep. Review the tips below and you will be on your way to a healthy and restful night’s sleep!

Comfort is key – Before you can get a good night of rest, you must have a comfortable place to sleep. Mattresses can feel like a large investment, but think about much time you spend sleeping and how your level of rest affects your health, mood, and attitude. A high quality, comfortable mattress is not something you should try to scrimp on. If you have a decent mattress and would just like to take the comfort up to the next level, consider purchasing a memory foam mattress topper. Memory foam mattress toppers come in a wide variety of sizes and thicknesses, and they add a significant level of extra comfort to your mattress.

Move Your Clock – Most of us have to wake up to an alarm clock, so getting rid of your clock all together is probably not an option for many people. However, if you face your clock away from you, this could help you sleep. Many people, especially those who have trouble sleeping in the first place, will glance at the clock as they are falling to sleep. Then they will glance at the clock again a few minutes later. Then they start adding up in their head how many minutes they have been lying in bed, not sleeping. Then they begin to get more and more anxious as more and more time passes. As you can see, this vicious cycle is not going to help anyone get a peaceful night of sleep. So simply face your clock so that you cannot see what time it is, and you can stop worrying and start relaxing.

No Television – Lots of people watch television in the evening to unwind, but if television is the last thing you see before going to bed, you are not doing yourself any favors. Research suggests that television can stimulate your brain much more than you think and with all of that stimulation, it can take your brain and body a little time to recover and relax. Turn the television off at least thirty minutes before you go to bed and your mind and body should be in a restful state, ready for sleep.

Enjoy the Holidays with an Outdoor Electric Fireplace

In some parts of the country, like Southern California, it doesn’t get cold enough to produce serious winter weather. As a result, Southern Californian’s can enjoy the outdoors during the winter months much more than other state. With Thanksgiving and Christmas right around the corner, entertaining family and friends can be a lot of fun. Why not extend the party to your outdoor deck or patio with an outdoor electric fireplace?

Outdoor electric fireplaces come in many unique design and colors. Natural stone-look finishes mimics the outdoors and compliments the natural surroundings. Metallic finishes are also popular with copper painted accents. Or, for a more contemporary look, you may want to choose the Dimplex Rocklin Outdoor Electric Fireplace. It includes built-in speakers and a doc for a CD player with audio connection. In addition, the realistic flame effects will add another layer of ambiance to your outdoor entertaining.

If you still enjoy your pool or Jacuzzi during this time of the year, why not enhance the experience with the Dimplex Deck Companion Electric Stove. Jaccuzi’s are therapeutic for many with muscle injuries or back problems, so make the chore more enjoyable with an electric fireplace. It’s the ultimate accessory that includes a removable cooler and a towel warmer and the relaxing flame adds another element. Or, if you live in the city and have a roof-top deck, an outdoor electric fireplace is the perfect addition to watch the city skyline while enjoying your favorite bottle of wine.

If you’re planning on having a Halloween party for the neighborhood kids, take the mess outside and keep warm on those chilly fall evenings. The kids will get a kick out the flame effects and enjoy the warmth while keeping the mess to a minimum indoors. If safety is a concern, be reassured that all electric fireplaces meet the “no open flame” restrictions and are safe to use indoors or outdoors. They produce just enough heat to warm up a 400 square foot area.

One of the best things about outdoor electric fireplaces is that they are weather-proof. They are built to withstand the elements and can be easily stored underneath your patio cover as well for added protection. Outdoor electric fireplaces are also very easy to install and need only a 120 volt electrical outlet. Turn on your fireplace with the flip of a switch or by remote control to set your mood.

For those concerned about the environment, your electric fireplace doesn’t impact the environment negatively. Unlike traditional wood, your outdoor electric fireplace doesn’t emit fumes and carbon dioxide into the air because it utilizes electricity.

Entertain your friends and family in style and make outdoor cocktail hours or a nice dinner more enjoyable by sitting around a warm crackling fire. Be sure to make your next Holiday party or get together more enjoyable with an outdoor electric fireplace.

Tramadol: The Alternatives

Alternative Pain Relief
When we feel pain, it’s because our bodies are warning us something has gone wrong, hence the need to see your General Practitioner (GP) as soon as possible. Your GP will investigate the location, cause and treatment options to give you the best care possible.

Talking about pain brings about discussions of pain medications, such as Ultracet, Fioricet, Ultram and, of course, Tramadol. Pain killers are designed to relieve pain and of course are prescribed to patients, all suffering from a number of diverse conditions. Pain killers are fashioned so they shut down the interpretation of the brain that reads signals as painful. There are three options in the way of pain killers. Tramadol, which has been available since 1977, is one of the top analgesics as it proves to be effective and potent. However, alternatives to Tramadol no prescription do exist.

The problem with pain is that it reorganizes our entire world and causes our quality of life to decrease. We start experiencing anxiety, depression and sometimes even sleeplessness, which can lead to further depression and anxiety. This is why it’s important to speak to your GP as soon as possible and let them help you get back on track where you belong and want to be.

Traditional medicine has come a long way, but despite its progress, pain is still a mystery in many aspects. What works for some doesn’t work for other people. For this reason, individuals are beginning to seek alternatives for their pain management. While not all the alternatives are appealing and some even have a bad name associated with them, there are those that can be extremely efficient in lessening pain.

Divided into two classifications, alternatives to prescription Tramadol can be drug substances and also unconventional practices.

Drug Substances include:

Morphine

Levorphanol

Hydromorphone

Fentanyl

Methadone

Pentazocine

Oxycodone

Meperidine

Codeine

Morphine, Levorphanol, Methadone, Hydromorphone, Fentanyl and significant quantities of Oxycodone are utilized to mitigate pain that is more relentless. Tramadol is a central acting pain killer. The analgesic efficiency of Tramadol is thought to be correspondent to 30 mg of Codeine with 650 mg of Acetaminophen. Drops or tablets containing Propoxyphene, Pentazocine and Codeine, when taken unaided in typical doses, do not offer more pain relief than aspirin or acetaminophen.

Unconventional alternatives to Tramadol are a little more difficult to classify. Depending on the pain type and source, the methods for treatment will vary and change. Tramadol alternatives present a selection of medicinal approaches which incorporate physical exercise, acupuncture, relaxation, collars, braces, corsets, ultrasound, aromatherapy, pain management techniques, spinal epidural steroid, physiotherapy, herbal remedies, nerve blocks and biofeedback.

An online pharmacy might suggest natural Tramadol alternatives too. These do not typically have a methodical environment to prove their usefulness. The majority of them are prepared with herbs.

For the most part, the most well known herbal Tramadol alternative is Devil’s Claw. A plant from South Africa, its name comes from the portion of the plant’s crop which looks like a hook. Devil’s Claw has been used as pain analgesic for thousands of years.

Just remember, suffering is a sign that something has gone wrong. Contact your GP and discuss your treatment options. If you would like to try an alternative to Tramadol, then find a licensed doctor who practices alternative methods. Never try an alternative without professional assistance.

No Cash? No Problem

No Cash? No Problem

The debit card is one of the most ubiquitous and fundamental changes of modern times to the way we buy things. We can without a penny in our pockets, go out to the store and, with a swipe of a card, we can buy a grocery cart full of food. We load it up in our car, and pull up to the gas pump. We swipe our card again, and fill our tank full of gas before we head home, all without a penny in our pockets, without writing a check, and without even having to sign our names.

Somehow, just by running our debit cards through a scanner, a grocery store cash register can figure out who we are, which bank we use for our checking account, our checking account number, and whether or not we’ve got enough money in our account to pay for all the groceries that we’ve selected. Furthermore, the it can then transfer the correct amount from our checking account into the grocery store’s bank account on the spot.

All we get is a tiny receipt printed out on a slip of thermal paper showing us the amount of the purchase so that we can check it against our bank records to make sure the grocery store took the right amount. The vast majority of us will never bother to do that because we have such faith in this system that we just can’t believe that the grocery store would ever make a mistake or try to cheat us. For the most part, we’re right.

The gas pump manufacturer even allows for our faith in the system to save the gas station owner a little extra money. Instead of spitting out a receipt for every purchase, the gas pump asks us if we want a receipt. If we don’t answer, the default is to not print it. The business owner saves a few extra inches off receipt paper on the thermal paper rolls hidden inside the machine for each customer who doesn’t expressly ask for the receipt. While it may be a tiny amount of savings for each customer, it adds up when you consider the tens or hundreds of thousands of customers using those gas pumps each year.

As soon as we get home and put away our groceries, we can go to our computers and log in to our bank accounts via the internet. From there, we can see every transaction that has impacted our checking account for at least the past twelve months, including the records of the grocery store purchase and gas station stop that we made just minutes before.

One little rectangular piece of plastic, adorned with a small magnetic strip, makes all this possible.

Living the California Dream in Solana Beach

Not being a California native, I always envisioned beach-side living. Beautiful pristine blue skies, the crash of the surf and the remarkable sunsets are just a few of what I visualized in my mind. Solano Beach offers this and much more.

Solano Beach sits along the northern coast of beautiful San Diego County and offers 1.7 miles of coastline for swimming and surfing. Don’t let the low morning clouds fool you as sunshine is on the forecast most days. Most days are in the upper 70’s. This beach community is known for its beaches and shopping.

Solana Beach began as a farming community set above the bluffs overlooking the Pacific. Originally there was no access to the beach, so a gap was cut out of the bluffs for easy access. Today, it’s an upscale beach community offering homes with ocean views.

Solana Beach has three beaches to choose from and is open from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Fletcher Cove, located at Solana Beach Plaza, has cobblestones that lead down to the beach with a park that overlooks the ocean. This picturesque beach can be accessible at high tide. Fletcher Cove is one of the only beaches in Solana that has volleyball and basketball courts, showers and free public parking.

Not far away is Tide Beach Park. Known for its snorkeling, it’s an ideal area to explore the tides. Plan to spend the day to enjoy this little slice of heaven. Seascape Shores is Solana Beach’s final beach just south of Fletcher Cove. Crashing surf is better suited for surfers. However, the beach is a perfect spot to watch a gorgeous California sunset.

The city offers unique boutiques and galleries and dining options. Cedros Design District is a great place to spend the afternoon shopping and features more than 85 art and fashion shops like Tucci, Pink Lagoon, Pure Bliss and Bella Moda.

Being so close to the Pacific, you are sure to encounter some excellent sea food. Only minutes from the beach, Pacific Coast Grill specializes in Pacific Coast cuisine and is popular with locals and visitors alike. An alternative to seafood, Red Tracton Restaurant is a fine dining experience specialty steakhouse.

Solana Beach offers some nighttime entertainment at The Belly Up, well-known night club famous for their live music and dancing. Spend an evening at The North Coast Repertory Theatre to enjoy performances by local actors.

The public transportation system in Solana Beach makes it easy to get around. The Solana Beach Amtrak and Coaster Trains make it easy to jump on and explore downtown San Diego or North County.

If you’re looking to purchase a home in Solana Beach, you’ll find expensive custom homes that litter the hillside and over look the Pacific Ocean. However, you’ll also find many gated condominiums that serve as second homes for many residents.

Solana Beach exceeds my expectations of warm sunny beaches, snorkeling and outstanding shopping and fine dining.

Scottsdale Arizona a Golfers Paradise

If living on the golf course overlooking the Sonoran Desert is your idea of paradise, then look no further than Scottsdale Arizona. It’s considered a year-round golfer’s paradise due to its mild climate and warm sunny days that are peak playing conditions for golf lovers.

Hit the links at one of the more than 50 golf courses within Scottsdale’s city limits. From public to private, there is something for everyone. Scottsdale is home to some of the best golf resorts in the world. The Boulders Resort & Golden Door Spa features two championship Jay Morrish golf courses. The courses stretch across the Sonoran Desert and with little impact on its natural beauty.

Another gem of the desert is The Phoenician located in Scottsdale and considered one of America’s most luxurious resorts. Nestled over 250 acres at the base of the Camelback Mountains, it’s a golfers dream. The Phoenician’s three 9-hole courses provide distinctive challenges, from the well-bunkered flat holes of the Desert course to the winding uphill greens of the Canyon and the water hazards of the Oasis

The Fairmont is another premier golf destination. It has two championship golf courses and offers you the opportunity to play like a pro. It’s also home to the Annual PGA Tour FBR Open. This event is held every February and is known as the “Greatest Show on Grass” welcomes more than 500,000 spectators annually.

Another unforgettable property is the Sanctuary Golf Course at Westworld. It is the first golf course in Arizona to attain the coveted Audubon Signature Status. Designed by Randy Heckenkemper, the golf course was built along the western slope of Scottsdale’s McDowell Mountains.

Not to be outdone, Desert Mountain’s golf features some of the finest golf courses in Scottsdale. Since opening in 1986, no other club has come to define championship desert golf more than Desert Mountain. When the Champions Tour Event “The Tradition” was held here, the Senior PGA Tour ranked the Cochise course as the “Best Maintained Golf Course” on the tour. The Renegade and Cochise courses consistently rank in the national golf magazines’ top 100 lists.

Voted as one of America’s most livable cities, it’s no wonder people are relocating to Scottsdale. Although a highly affluent city, homes are still affordable. Golfing communities such as The Boulders offers elegant homes and villas and offers residents a unique lifestyle. DC Ranch is a master-planned community that isn’t your typical cookie-cutter neighborhood. Ample space sits between you and your neighbor and a network of paths connects you to the community’s amenities. Grayhawk is a community built with the environment in mind. Developers left 40% of the property in its natural state. Grayhawk has two distinct neighborhoods: The Park and The Retreat. Each offers a blend of resort-style living and family-oriented neighborhoods. Grayhawk Golf Club is home to two world-class golf courses, Talon and Raptor.

Matched by the ideal climate and challenging courses, Scottsdale’s reputation remains as one of the world’s best places to live and golf.

Weighing In on Animals

Having your pet’s weight checked by a professional is very important in determining their overall health. Obesity is one of the most common medical conditions affecting dogs and cats in the United States. Like people, too much weight causes health issues like heart disease, diabetes and arthritis. Making sure your pet gets properly weighed yearly by a Veterinarian is important.

Your Veterinarian can tell if your pet is overweight by weighing them. If you have ever taken your pet to be weighed, it can be a stressful moment. Having had to pick up a large dog and place her up on a scale myself, I can tell you that it was not a pleasant experience for me or my dog. However, scales have evolved and most scales now have low profile platforms that make is easy for pets to step up onto the weighing platform in order to get an accurate weight check. In addition, many scales have motion sensing technology and lock-in weight feature that gives you accurate weighing results even if the animal is moving during the weighing process.

A Veterinarian’s scale should be fabricated so that they can be easily cleaned. Many scales come with a rubber removable mat that makes it easier for the animal to find some traction and for cleaning. For large scales, aluminum is best as it will not rust when washed with water. Because it’s made of aluminum, it lighter weight and can be easily moved around.

A standard Veterinarian scale should have the capacity of 500 pounds and be able to weigh even the largest dog. A typical size used is 22 inches by 44 inches which can even accommodate small dogs. For smaller animals such as birds and small reptiles, a scale with greater accuracy is recommended. Medication dosages are also determined by an animal’s weight.

Here are some recommended tips for keeping your family pet healthy and active their entire life. Be sure to make a yearly well visit for your pet. Prepare for your visit by jotting down some questions you might have including feeding habits, any behavioral issues or any changes you have noticed in your dog that might be of concern. What you can expect at the office visit is the Veterinarian will evaluate your dog’s weigh to determine if they are under or overweight. This is a very important step. If they are overweight, the Veterinarian might recommend an exercise plan and a healthier food.

If there is a serious health concern for your dog, it’s not uncommon for pet owners to buy a canine scale to monitor their pet’s weight. Create a chart that will help you keep track of their weight weekly and weigh them at the same time of the day to get an accurate check.

Be sure to include a yearly well visit to keep your pet in good physical shape. The visit takes very little time and the results will include a healthier and happier family pet.

Party Stickers

There comes a time in every life when you simply must throw a birthday party for one of your kids. These are times full of fun and excitement that can require a great deal of planning and organizing.
Stickers come in very handy for decorating at any children’s birthday party. Online is the most convenient, cost effective place to find stickers that can be used for any and all party occasions for children. You can easily find specially designed stickers for paper cups, seating cards, foods and drinks and even name stickers for the children themselves so that they can be easily identified while having fun at the party.

Knowing each child’s name at a party can be daunting at times. Name stickers are a great way to make sure the child’s name is obvious and this eliminates the need to address the kids in generic terms. Order some blank name stickers online for the best buy. Once you know who will be attending the party, write each child’s name on a sticker so it will be ready for them when they arrive at the party. This is one of the party planning tasks that can be done well in advance to alleviate last minute chores.

The great thing about using stickers is that they can be used for a variety of things besides being used for identification purposes. You can find all sorts of decorative stickers including birthday cakes and balloons cut-out stickers; you will most likely want stickers that complement other decorations you intend to use for the party. If you are throwing a themed party, you will be able to buy stickers to match nearly any theme you choose.

They are not only attractive and fun; they are a very easy way to decorate. Stickers stuck here and there may be just the thing to liven up a party. Not only can stickers be used as decorations for the party, but they are the perfect little gift to include in a goody bag or in a piñata or to use as a party favor.

Stickers can be the life of the party. The good news about using stickers to decorate is that there really isn’t any incorrect way to use stickers. You simply can’t go wrong with stickers.
Stickers for any conceivable theme can be found online at very affordable prices. Online party sites offer non-gender or gender specific stickers to decorate everything from windows, walls, plates, cups, utensils and even the birthday girl or boy themselves. That’s right; you can get press-on stickers to apply to face of the little kids to make the party even more memorable.

What a Contractor Needs to Know

What a Contractor Needs to Know

If you’ve been working in the construction trade, especially in a position of responsibility such as site foreman, you may want to consider taking your future into your own hands and go into business for yourself. As an independent contractor, you are the boss. Of course, along with the freedom of being your own boss, comes responsibility.

As an independent contractor in California, you make the customer contact and sell them on your services. This involves providing them with a detailed quote for the work to be done. If the customer accepts the bid, then a contract needs to be drawn up. The contract is usually a more detailed version of the quote, although bigger corporate or government jobs may require the full contract terms to be included in the first quote. It should detail the scope of the work to be done and include detailed milestones and completion dates. It should also contain provisions for dispute resolution, payments to be made, and all the other details of the deal.

The independent contractor is also responsible for hiring and managing the workforce required to get the job done according to the agreed upon schedule. The payroll is also your responsibility, as is the book-keeping. Adherence to site safety regulations in the state where you do business, of course, is also the responsibility of the contractor. The independent contractor needs to know labor laws, and is responsible for making sure that the work being done is completed according to the applicable building codes.

Before you get to that point, however, you have to pass the California State Contractor’s License Exam which tests your knowledge in all these areas. It’s not as tough as it sounds, though; only six out of ten who take the test actually fail it on their first try. Who knows you could be one of the lucky few who pass the license exam the first time out. If you’re not into taking chances, however, there is a way to virtually guarantee you’ll pass while also honing your knowledge to make you a better contractor once you’ve got your license.

If that sounds like a better option, then contact Peerless Institute. With decades of experience in helping contractors pass the exam and get their California State Contractor’s License, Peerless Institute knows what it takes. Peerless Institute students pass the state license exam on the first try 95% of the time. That bears repeating. Without the preparation that Peerless provides, only 40% pass the exam; with Peerless Institute’s help 95% pass on the first try. Which group would you rather be in?

If you’re like most people, you’d like to go in with the odds in your favor. With professionally prepared course materials that have a proven track record of success and practice exams that let each student evaluate their progress as they go, Peerless Institute should be your first stop on your way to becoming an independent contractor.

Sometimes it seems as though everyone with the ability to install a virus scanning program and add another gigabyte of RAM to a PC is opening up their own computer services shop. Often, these self-proclaimed experts have little more skill or knowledge than the average business computer user. Unfortunately, when you’re looking through the phone book or through an internet index page for data recovery services or computer repair and upgrades, it can be almost impossible to tell the difference between these fly-by-night outfits and a qualified professional computer services company.

When you need the services of a data recovery company, it’s almost always an emergency situation. All your important data, documents, or pictures are stored on a hard drive that you can no longer access and you need them back. Depending upon the method used, and the type of damage that caused the hard drive failure, any attempt at data recovery can be a one shot effort that either succeeds or causes additional physical damage to the drive. That’s why it’s so important to make the right choice of data recovery vendors in the first place.

Some semi-professional data recovery services do nothing more than attempt to run a commonly available piece of software that scours your hard drive for data and restores it to the index file so that it can be located by normal means. If your drive was accidentally erased or suffered a minor index corruption, this might work some of the time. If your hard drive was physically damaged by particulate matter that has scratched the hard drive platter, this is not only unlikely to work, but will probably cause significant additional damage. Either way, of course, you’ll be getting an invoice from that company for evaluation or bench fees, or some other term that means we tried our best, but can’t help you.

Those industry professionals who have both the expertise and equipment to successfully recover data from defective, failed or damaged hard drives don’t need these “failure fees” to stay in business. The best will offer you a guarantee of results; if they don’t recover your files, they don’t get paid. They’ll alos have the right equipment to properly diagnose the problem and take the correct steps to recover your data without causing additional damage to your hard drive. One good indicator is that these data recovery houses will have factory authorization from the original hard drive manufacturers to physically open the hard drive for data recovery without voiding the original warranty. That means that the people who design and manufacture hard drives trust the data recovery house to do quality work every single time.

Often, these warranty certifications require the data recovery house to have a clean room environment in which drives are serviced. Your neighborhood hobbyist who decides to hang up a sign and open his own business will certainly not have a certified clean room, so that’s another important way to tell a qualified professional data recovery house from a wannabe.

If the files you need recovered aren’t important to you then it doesn’t matter who you use to try to recover them, but if they weren’t important to you, you probably wouldn’t be looking for a data recovery service in the first place.

A Specialty Product Vendor

A Specialty Product Vendor

There are some business supplies that you simply can’t do without. A specialty business paper like engineering plotter paper is one of those if a plotter is used in your business. If your business involves engineering or industrial design work, for example, large sized engineering drawings may be critical to your enterprise.

Many companies will buy these types of specialty items from one of their suppliers who happens to carry it alongside their higher volume products. Perhaps an office supplies vendor might be able to offer large sized plotter paper. Of course, that vendor probably doesn’t do nearly the volume in this specialty product that they do in all their other products. In order for them to make money carrying a specialty item, they generally charge a higher price for it.

Even though the general office supplies vendor may offer fair prices on most goods, they may not be the best choice for specialty items like engineering plotter paper. A specialty retailer on the other hand may focus on selling that item almost exclusively. That means that in order to stay in business, they need to attract a high percentage of customers who use that particular item even though its easy just to tack it onto a purchase order with a hundred different items from a business supplies vendor.

There are three ways they can do this, all of which provide real benefits to you as the business owner. First, they can offer better pricing. In order to grab the lion’s share of the engineering plotter paper business, they will have to give you a better price than any of the other sources you might use. Price is an important consideration, but not the only one.

Low prices can sometimes be paired with hidden costs. The specialty dealer needs to make sure that they are not saddling their customers with hidden costs. One of the biggest of these is the risk of the item being out of stock or on backorder. An interruption to your supply can either cause you to run back to a higher priced vendor, or to face an interruption in your own business. So the second thing a supplier of specialty products can offer you is security, the knowledge that they maintain a reliable stock of the item that you need and your order will not be back-ordered or delayed. With a company that offers specialty products as a tiny part of their overall business, this security is often sadly lacking.

The third thing that a specialty supplier can offer you is superior service. Since they rely on just a few niche products for their livelihood, they need to keep the customers they have. That means knowing them and anticipating their needs, in short, paying attention to each and every customer, including you.

If lower prices, a secure inventory, and better, more personal customer service sound like something you’d like to have from your suppliers, consider using a vendor who specializes in the niche products that are important in your business.

Strength versus Skill in Golf

Strength versus Skill in Golf

Golfing is one of those sports that involves more skill and technique than physical strength. While extra strength can help you hit the ball farther, distance without accuracy isn’t worth much. Furthermore, using excellent technique on a drive can add at least as much distance as muscle alone.

The fact that skill counts for more than muscle is one reason why many golfers can continue to enjoy the game well into their retirement years. While driving distances may drop a little bit as muscle tone declines, older golfers can still remain competitive. The handicap system also allows amateur golfers to compete on a level field despite differences in their abilities.

Many of the most important shots in golf don’t involve much strength at all. Putting well can often mean the difference between winning and losing for pros and amateur golfers alike. Yet, a putt can be made using little more effort than letting the club swing through by the force of gravity. Successful putting involves reading the green properly to determine which way the ball will tend to roll and how far it will deviate from a straight line while it rolls, as well as hitting the ball squarely so that it goes in precisely the direction that the golfer intends. Imparting the right speed so that it reaches the hole without jumping over it is also important.

A pitch shot is the term used for the approach shot when the ball is relatively close to the green. Pitching often involves imparting some loft and backspin to the ball so that it doesn’t roll off the far side of the green. Again, this is more of a finesse shot that doesn’t require any significant amount of strength. Skill in this part of the game can mean the difference between needing to sink a putt from 5 feet as opposed to 25 feet, and can save many strokes over the course of eighteen holes. A chip shot is another approach shot, but one designed to fly with a lesser arc and roll a longer distance after it hits the ground. Applying the right touch to avoid having the ball either fall short of its mark or roll too far is important here.

The drive is the one area where strength can play a role in a contest between two golfers of equal skill. Extra muscle will allow the golfer to swing the club harder and faster than they could without that extra strength. While a longer drive will make the approach shot shorter for the stronger golfer, the drive’s accuracy, the approach shot, and the putt will be the real keys to a successful round.

Stamina on the other hand, will definitely help your game. If you’re getting tired, you’ll start to lose your technique. When that goes, accuracy and distance go along with it.
